"[An] elegant drink that shows off aromas and flavors of blackberry, black currant and a hint of nutmeg and cardamom."

2012 Cabernet Sauvignon

Gold Medal - 2015 Great Northwest Wine Competition
"The Fries family tends to more than 500 acres of vines on the arid and remote Wahluke Slope and crafts this wine at its production facility in the Yakima Valley town of Prosser, Wash. This is a round and supple red with aromas of black pepper, herbal tea, Marionberry and cola, followed by flavors of ripe plum and blackberry. It’s all backed by mild oak and moderate tannins."

2011 Cabernet Sauvignon

88 points - Wine Advocate, Issue #213 (June 2014)
In the same mold, yet giving up more spice, herbs, violets and black fruits, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is medium-bodied and concentrated on the palate. More focused and pure than the Merlot, it too represents a solid value and will drink well for upward of a decade.”

Excellent - Wine Press Northwest, Spring 2013

"This destination winery in the town of Prosser brings in grapes from its estate vineyard on the arid Wahluke Slope north of the Yakima Valley. The aromas reminded us of a dusty country road after a summer squall, as well as Rainier cherry and smoky cedar. On the palate, it reveals flavors of marionberry and pomegranate. It's a big wine with substantial tannins."

Recommended - Great Northwest Wines, May 5, 2013
"...This Cab uses grapes from estate vineyards on the warm Wahluke Slope. It opens with aromas of plum, clove, cinnamon bark and dark chocolate. On the palate, it reveals flavors of cocoa powder, red raspberry and ripe plum."

2008 Cabernet Sauvignon

89+ points - Wine Advocate, Issue #190 (August 2010)
"Desert Wind’s red wines begin with the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon. It is purple-colored with a garnet rim and an aromatic array of spice box, violets, cherries, plums, and marionberries. On the palate hints of mocha and chocolate make an appearance on top of a smooth-textured, structured, balanced framework. Drink this excellent value over the next 8-10 years.”

Outstanding – Wine Press Northwest, Spring 2011 issue

“Here's a wine that strikes out with soul and power from the raising of the curtain to the final note. Black currants, boysenberry, blackberry, dark chocolate, grilled Portobello mushroom and black olives create the vibe. And the proud, sinewy baseline of the drink is akin to the R&B sound of the Isley Brothers. There's gusto of bold cherry, French press coffee and black licorice, yet a suppleness of blackberry jam. It's a stone-cold lover.”

2006 Cabernet Sauvignon

89 points / Silver Medal - Beverage Testing Institute 2009
"Aromas of fresh cut cedar and pine over a layer of forest berries follow through on a supple entry to a fruity-yet-dry medium body with prominent rosemary and pine needle notes. Finishes with a crisp, lively powdery tannin fade. A fun, herbaceous, but fruity sipper with a lot of character.”

87 points / Best Buy – Wine & Spirits Magazine, August 2009
“Soft and ripe, this wine has a hint of green herb to complement black cherry jam flavors. For grilled Italian sausages.”

86 points - Wine Advocate, Issue #185 (October 2009)

"The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Desert Wind Vineyard’s aromatics are a bit muted. Aside from that, it is soft, forward, pleasantly fruited, and friendly. Drink this uncomplicated effort over the next 5 years."

Chuck Hill’s Wine of the Week – November 2009

“The grapes for this wine came from the winery’s estate vineyard on the Wahluke Slope. The vineyard offers plenty of heat to ripen Bordeaux varietals including Desert Wind Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose offers marionberry, earthy herbs and smoky, toasty oak. Berry and vanilla flavors are easy to like and pair with a wide variety of hearty fare.”

2004 Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine of the Week - Chuck Hill for WinesNorthwest.com, October 19, 2006
“From the newly anointed Wahluke Slope AVA, comes Desert Wind's rich and tangy Cabernet, ripe with blackberry and black currant, wrapped in toasty, spicy oak. The palate is well worth contemplating for its complex flavors of berry, vanilla, coffee, black pepper and cherry. Smoked turkey would be a great choice of entrée.”
